Sunday Arvo (#22) 21.5.17 #unfoldsundayarvo Now this was supposed to be a day of rain. In fact it was reported that over the weekend we would have a month's worth of rain in 3 days. Didn't get the brolly out once. Ummmm....still not an exact science then. #weathermangotitwrong

It's the little things that make me happy. Carpenter just finished the new fretwork on my verandah (the left side). It was a blank piece before and I could never understand why it couldn't all have been like the original open battens (on the right). Now it is. Something I've wanted to get done for 17 years.

Reno reuse. Saved as many of the front verandah tiles as I could from our Stage 1 house Reno. Giving them a scrub and packing them away for using in Stage 2. #dontbelieveinathrowawaysociety #secondlife #tesselatedtiles

Haven't drawn anything for ages, so thought I'd dive in to #mermay2017 at least once.

#throwbackthursday OK, last one (for a while). This is another entry, that I titled "Just add water", into the Young Designer of the Year competition (from 1999)...first time I entered. The competition was sponsored that year by PGH pacers and the brief was to design a piece of furniture for an outdoor room. Twisting the brief, I played with the room itself using the PGH pavers. I got the idea from history class where we had learnt about Piazza Navona being filled with water to stage events. It's also influenced by a trip to Seville and The Alhambra in Spain, seeing how they irrigate orange trees in brick-paved courtyards using runnels of water. My idea was filling a brick-paved courtyard with water, but the pavers are set at differing heights so by controlling the level of the water you can create different environments. I called the different modes: Orange grove, Lagoon, Stepping stones and Mirror. I still like the idea. #alhambra #justaddwater

Sunday Arvo (#20) 7.1.17 Fish-eye view of another beautiful blue sky Sunday. Were given a baby Betta fish today that the girls named Dolmio (because that was the brand of pasta sauce of the jar he was in). That's him, the black dot on the left. Picked up a $3 vase from Reverse Garbage, some pebbles and fish food and we are now officially pet owners. Place bets on how long that lasts. #unfoldsundayarvo

#throwbackthursday I have been going over past design competition entries, and this one, Tatamiorigami, was always a favourite. Based on the concept of combining the two Japanese arts/designs of the Tatami mat and origami, Tatamiorigami is a folded cushion flooring system that can be rearranged to form different living "modes". Runner up in Young Designer of the Year award 2002 (I think) and featured in the SMH. No longer a "young designer".

#throwbackthursday No.3 Lifestyle Channel Environmental Design competition 2004. This entry was for a digital "skin" to manipulate your computer desktop, streaming live feed in the background of cameras located in various Australian national parks. The idea here was to emotionally connect people to the natural environment, even during your daily work day. 2004....well, I don't know what that was pre....but I still think it's a good idea.

#throwbackthursday No.2 Lifestyle Channel Environmental Design competition 2004. You know those times when you want to say "I thought of that first". This one was for a product called Netpool, looking toward a time when T4 transit lane will become more important and yet how do you fill your car with more passengers? Bringing back carpooling for the Internet generation. Netpool links a driver's GPS up with passengers going the same direction. The system keeps users names for security and even lets you know drivers likes (eg converse or keep it to yourself). 2004.... that's pre-Uber, pre-iPhone and pre-App store explosion.

#throwbackthursday No.1 Lifestyle Channel Environmental Design competition 2004. You know those times when you want to say "I thought of that first". Was going through some old work and found some entries I put into this competition - this one was for an electric car park/hire station located at major train stations and CBDs, where you can hire an electric car by the hour, with and integrated public transport card that gives you a discount if you have used public transport that day. 2004.... that pre-Goget and pre-Opal cards!
